The Hung Kings Commemoration Day 2026 marks a special milestone as the festival will be held after the merger of the three provinces of Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, and Hoa Binh into the new Phu Tho province.
On March 27th, Phu Tho province held a press conference for the Hung Kings Commemoration Day - Hung Temple Festival and the Ancestral Land Culture and Tourism Week in the Year of the Horse 2026.
Speaking at the press conference, the Vice Chairman of the Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Huy Ngoc, affirmed that the Hung Kings Commemoration Day - Hung Temple Festival 2026 marks a special milestone as the festival will be held in the context of implementing the policy of rearranging and merging the three provinces of Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, and Hoa Binh into the new Phu Tho province, while simultaneously operating a two-tiered local government model.
According to Mr. Ngoc, this is a cultural and religious event to honor the merits of the Hung Kings and has special significance for the people of the whole country and Vietnamese expatriates abroad. It is also a "golden" opportunity for Phu Tho province to introduce and promote the unique cultural values of the ancestral land, contributing to the development of tourism and enhancing the province's position and image.
At the press conference, a representative of the Phu Tho Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated that the festival will be organized in two main parts: traditional rituals (the ceremonial part) and a series of cultural, sports, and tourism events (the festive part), taking place over 10 days from April 17th to 26th (corresponding to the 1st to 10th day of the 3rd lunar month of the Year of the Horse)
The festival includes a solemn ceremonial part with traditional rituals such as offering incense to commemorate the Hung Kings, the anniversary of the death of National Ancestor Lac Long Quan, offering incense to Ancestress Au Co, and the Hung Kings' Ancestral Commemoration Ceremony held on April 26th (the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month). The festival part consists of a series of rich cultural, sports, and tourism activities.
Specifically, with the goal of strengthening regional linkages and cultural exchange, 148 communes and wards of Phu Tho province, divided into 18 clusters, will participate in the incense offering ceremony commemorating the Hung Kings and other traditional cultural activities.
According to the Organizing Committee, one of the highlights of this year's Hung Kings Commemoration Day - Hung Temple Festival is the restoration of the street folk culture festival, which will be connected with the "Colorful Tourism of the Ancestral Land" program. Notably, for the first time, 148 communes and wards of Phu Tho, divided into 18 clusters, will participate in the incense offering ceremony commemorating the Hung Kings.
